December – 2014

Wow has this year flown by! So many races and so many great performances its impossible to pick our favourite. But here is a little news of some recent racing activity from PT Systems athletes over the last couple months. Cycling:
Bouncing back from a rough crash plagued Tour of Southland, Martin Smallman placed a well earned 3rd in the Old coast road 100km road race that runs from Westport to Greymouth. Congratulations to Jared Pidcock being selected for the 2015 U17 boys New Zealand development training squad, Jared has well earned his place with ……….
Jeremy Heathfield and Sharon Prutton took part in the Amy’s ride grand fonda in Victoria Australia, where Jeremy placed 10th in his age qualifying him a spot at next years world champs if he chooses to go and Sharon won her grade.
Sharlotte Lucas wins round five and round six in a close sprint finish of the Benchmark elite series to take the overall series win.

Track Cycling:
The Oceania track championships where held in Adelaide this year and Ione Johnston riding for the junior NZ squad won a silver medal in the U19 girls points race.
At the mid season Canterbury champs Jared Pidcock picked up four sliver medals and a bronze in his five events, While Mitchell Podmore grabbed a gold, two slivers and a bronze. Making it a successful weekend for the two of them.

Mountain Biking:
Dale Nicholls of Manawatu took on the 85km Huka challenge held up in Taupo for the second year in a row. This year he took a massive 50mins off last years time, coming in a solid 24th overall.
For the second year in a row Mike Smart walked away from the McLeans solo 6 hour MTB race with a medal, in the colour of Bronze for 2014.
Mike Chappell, Mike Smart, Neil McKeegan and Brooke Hudson went up to the first Canterbury mtb race of the season held in Cheviot. All had a blast over the multi lap tough course with Brooke winning the woman’s.

Triathlon / Duathlon / Multisport:
After qualifying earlier this year Philippa Seldon went over to Maui, Hawaii for the 2014 X-Terra world championships. After a couple months of managing niggling injuries Philippa had a good race taking 11mins off last years time.
Glen Currie joined his Team NZ adventure, team mates for another multi-day race in China. Again they came away overall winners ahead of teams from all over the world.
At the Mooloolaba 70.3 tri held in mid September, Seonaigh Conchie came in second place in her age group.
